Helen Kane, President, founded Hedge Trackers, LLC in April 2000. Her duties involve monitoring FASB/IASB pronouncements, reaching out to accounting firm derivative accounting specialists, overseeing auditor and SEC responses, and consulting with clients contemplating complex derivative accounting applications.
In addition, Helen chairs both the East and West Coast annual Accounting for Derivatives Conferences featuring derivative specialists from the FASB and SEC. She also provides training to audit firms, state regulators, the AICPA Credit Union Conference, and guest lectures at local universities.
Before founding Hedge Trackers, Helen was a Senior Manager at Deloitte & Touche in the Capital Markets Group, leading their Silicon Valley risk management practice. Prior to Deloitte, she served in treasury, finance and accounting roles for multinational corporations.
Helen holds a B.A. (with Honors) from Arizona State University and a Masters in International Management from The Garvin School of International Management (“Thunderbird”).
Ruth Hardie, Director of Interest Rate Outsourcing, joined Hedge Trackers at its inception in 2000 and has been instrumental in building the firm’s outsourcing services. She regularly provides individualized consulting, journal entry preparation, reporting assistance, and regression and effectiveness testing in both the FX and interest rate arenas. Ruth’s vast, practical experience and superb communication skills have made her an in-demand national and international speaker for both Hedge Trackers’ training and third-party seminars, such as those organized by the Center for Professional Education.
Previously, she was at Deloitte & Touche where she managed and executed financial statement audit engagements for various clients, including large SEC companies, banks, software and traditional manufacturing companies, and government entities. Ruth qualified as a C.P.A., graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.S. in Finance, and earned her M.B.A. from San Jose State University.
Nichole Krause, Director of Consulting Services, joined Hedge Trackers in 2006. As a consultant, Nichole advises clients such as Visa International, Micron, and Google on all areas of foreign currency risk as it relates to ASC 815 (FAS 133) and ASC 830 (FAS 52). She has extensive experience with the reporting requirements for hedge accounting and has worked closely with external auditors to ensure complete transparency of the programs and their goals. A portion of Nichole’s twelve years in accounting and treasury was spent at Macromedia, Inc. where she developed a best-in-class hedge program for the company’s foreign currency exposure. Nichole has a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Arizona and an M.B.A. (with Honors) from Santa Clara University. She is also a Certified Treasury Professional.
Sandra Koch, Director of FX and Commodity Outsourcing, joined Hedge Trackers in 2006. Sandra has been a key member of Hedge Trackers’ team as a Senior Technical Consultant and as the Senior Technical Manager on the management team since 2008. Sandra also has wide-ranging experience in both foreign currency and commodity risk management, helping clients implement and organize cash flow and balance sheet hedging programs and strategies. While at Hedge Trackers, LLC she worked regularly with clients on documentation, like item and effectiveness testing, as well as derivative accounting setup and support.
Prior to Hedge Trackers, Sandra spent seven years with Tellabs, Inc.as Senior Finance Manager and Business Unit Controller where she established a full-scale FAS 133 compliant FX hedging program.
Sandra is based in the Chicago area and is responsible for developing business and establishing a Hedge Trackers office there. She graduated from Indiana University in 1993 with a B.S. in Business Finance.
Janice Oberhofer, Technical Director, joined Hedge Trackers in 2001 and has served in various roles at the firm, including providing foreign exchange consulting and most recently as Director of FX Software and Outsourcing. Currently, Janice is responsible for researching complex derivative accounting issues, providing advanced trainings and supporting technical efforts, and defining additional functionality development for Capella Foreign Currency.
Prior to joining Hedge Trackers, Janice spent over 10 years in Corporate Treasury in a variety of treasury roles, including Foreign Exchange Manager, at companies such as KLA-Tencor and Tandem Computers. This hands-on experience affords her a deep understanding of clients’ treasury and accounting issues. She graduated with a B.A. in History from UCLA and earned her M.B.A. (with Honors) from Santa Clara University.
Jim Shepard, Senior Consultant, joined Hedge Trackers in 2008. He has more than fifteen years of corporate treasury, accounting, and finance experience during which time he has managed numerous FAS 133 and FAS 52-compliant revenue and balance sheet hedging programs. Jim, who is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, also has a wide range of experience in the commodity hedging business.
Most recently, he worked for BEA Systems, Inc., where he held the position of Assistant Treasurer and was responsible for global treasury operations, including: managing the cash flow forecasting process, developing cash management and investment strategies, and improving insurance and foreign currency risk management programs.
Jim holds a bachelors degree in Psychology from California State University, Hayward, and a M.B.A. from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. He is also a Certified Treasury Professional.
Glenn Suarez, Senior Consultant, joined Hedge Trackers in 2008 and has been an integral member of the Interest Rate team. His experience with complex modeling of financial instruments is supported by more than 15 years of corporate treasury and financial risk management experience.
Prior to joining Hedge Trackers, Glenn worked at Countrywide Capital Markets in controller and financial risk manager roles. Before Countrywide, he worked for five years as a Senior Manager with Deloitte & Touche’s Risk Accounting and Advisory practice, where he assisted multinational corporations and financial institutions in the establishment and assessment of hedging programs to manage interest rate, foreign exchange, and commodity price exposures, and compliance with FAS 133/FAS 52 provisions.
Glenn is based in the Los Angeles area and is responsible for developing business and establishing a Hedge Trackers office there. He graduated from Stanford University with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
